We rode the monument the first time in 1985. Our son was 12 years old. This was a great way to finish our mainland visit and experiencing the Coors Classic (Red Zinger) Bicycle Race and watching the movie American Flyers. My son hoped that we would find Kevin Costner on route; I hoped for Rae Dawn Chong. We rode the route counter-clockwise starting at the Saddle Horn campsite near the CNM Visitors Center. The route was obvious on Rim Rock drive, but after we passed through the Colorado National Monument's eastern portal, we had to rely on dead reckoning to make our way to the western portal. As Charles Lindberg stated that although Dead Reckoning works well, but the name does suggest some problems. We wish we could have had this map that day. Great Map - Thanks John This Tour of the Moon is a classic bicycle ride that all need to experience! Note: you can download the map in PDF format or the map below is a higher resolution file.
